WCSSAA Qualifying Round: Favourites Advance to Quarters

No surprises on Tuesday afternoon in WCSSAA Qualifying Round playoff action as the home teams were victorious in both junior and senior action.

We'll start the recaps on the senior side:

(5) WCI 50, (12) Preston 26
My Pick:  WCI by 14
No trouble for the Vikes as they locked down defensively to come away with a big win.  Shafi Mutware (15) and Nick Johnny (8) paced WCI on Tuesday, while Lucas Moffitt had 11 for the Panthers.

(6) Eastwood 67, (11) Bluevale 56
My Pick:  ECI by 14
The Kromah boys --- Ousmane and Mohamed --- each had 16 points to lead ECI to victory at home.  Garett Large and Savo Krajisnik each had a game-high 17 for Bluevale.

(7) Galt 61, (10) Huron Heights 48
My Pick:  GCI by 9
The Huskies did a great job of containing TJ Lall, limiting him to just 12 points but Scott Holton chipped in with 16 for the Ghosts en route to the win.  Arshid Babury had 21 and Nathan Ernst-Finnie 14 for Huron.

(8) Glenview Park 57, (9) Forest Hts. 40
My Pick:  GPSS by 4
The Panthers got some revenge for a regular season loss in front of a raucous home crowd.  Sean Davidson pumped home 24 points for Glenview, with Muneeb Gohar adding 14.  Manraj Jugpal led the way for the Trojans with 16.

Quarterfinals - Thursday, February 13th
(8) Glenview Park at (1) Cameron Heights
(7) Galt at (2) SJAM
(6) Eastwood at (3) Grand River
(5) WCI at (4) KCI

Junior
(5) Bluevale 47, Southwood 34
My Pick:  BCI by 24
A tale of "two halves" here --- Bluevale owned the first and fourth quarters, outscoring Southwood 31-7, but the Sabres had a 27-16 edge in the 2nd and 3rd.  This was actually a three-point game (33-30) entering the 4th, before Greg Smith (who had 20 points) and the Knights pulled away.  Connor Hall led the Sabres with 12.

(6) Preston 37, (11) Glenview Park 19
My Pick:  PHS by 9
The Panthers are through to "AAA" CWOSSA after posting a big home playoff win on Tuesday.  Jaskaran Attwal led the way with 14 points for PHS, while Huzaifa Hassan had 5 for Glenview.

(7) Jacob Hespeler 42, (10) Galt CI 31
My Pick:  JHSS by 8
Eric Purdy pumped home 22 points for the Hawks in this one to help the Hawks move on to the quarterfinals (and, like Preston, also secure an "AAA" CWOSSA berth in the process).  Hayden Merkir had 8 for Galt.

(8) Eastwood 53, (9) KCI 32
My Pick:  ECI by 20
Raghav Sharma led a balanced Rebel attack with 14 points as Eastwood moved on to the Quarterfinals, posting the largest margin of victory in a junior qualifying round game (despite being the 8/9 matchup).  David Okot had 10 and Sam McLean 9 for the Raiders.

Junior Quarterfinals - Thursday
(8) Eastwood at (1) SJAM
(7) Jacob Hespeler at (2) WCI
(6) Preston at (3) Cameron Hts.
(5) Bluevale at (4) Grand River
