D10: Quarterfinals Picks

Senior
(1) St. James vs. (8) Orangeville
Season Series:  STJ 2-0 (77-42, 94-33)
The "#8" vs. "#1" in D10 is kind of like the #1-#16 match-up in the NCAA Tournament.  There's a chance that an upset will happen at some point, but you don't expect it --- certainly not here, against the undefeated Lions who are playing well right now.

My Pick:  STJ by 43

(2) Bishop Mac vs. (7) Guelph CVI
Season Series:  BMAC 2-0 (61-34, 60-30)
The Celts controlled the Gaels during their regular season meetings in nearly identical outcomes; those two scores were GCVI's lowest scoring outputs of the season.

My Pick:  BMAC by 29

(3) JF Ross vs. (6) Centennial
Season Series:  JFR 2-0 (68-55, 77-60)
You can never count out the underdog when these two rivals match-up, and this is certainly no exception as the Spartans can keep themselves in games with almost anyone with their outside shooting at times.  Of course, I'm pretty safe with my picks so I'll go with the homecourt Royals.

My Pick:  JFR by 14

(4) CWDHS vs. (5) Lourdes
Season Series:  1-1 (CW 58-40, OL 62-54)
Two teams sort of heading in opposite directions, which should make this one particularly interesting.  The Falcons got off to a great start in league and tournament play with their veteran lineup, although teams have gradually caught up to them over the past month or so -- including Lourdes, who beat them at home.  I'll go with CW's veterans to give them the push to play another game, but it could get very interesting in Fergus.

My Pick:  CW by 5

Junior
(1) Centennial vs. (8) Lourdes
Season Series:  2-0 (85-54, 72-34)
The Spartans didn't have much trouble with the Crusaders during the regular season, scoring almost 80 PPG during their two meetings.  Not sure if that trend will continue here, but they should win handily.

My Pick:  CCVI by 37

(2) St. James vs. (7) Bishop Mac
Season Series:  2-0 (58-38, 47-36)
A couple of weeks ago, these teams met and it was just an 11-point difference, which should give the Celtics some confidence.  Not sure if they have enough to win this one, but they could keep it interesting for a bit.

My Pick:  STJ by 18

(3) GCVI vs. (6) JF Ross
Season Series:  1-1 (GC 44-30, JF 48-37)
Both teams won a game on their opponent's home floor during this series, which seems like good news if you are a JF Ross fan.  The Royals have been inconsistent --- staying close to teams at the top and bottom of the standings --- so we'll see which version shows up here.

My Pick:  GCVI by 8

(4) CWDHS vs. (5) Orangeville
Season Series:  1-1 (OD 58-51, CW 52-45)
Both teams won by 7 points on their home floor during the regular season, a trend which we could see continue today.  CW has been playing well down the stretch (including a tourney win over St. James), so I'll go with them here.

My Pick:  CWDHS by 9
