It won't have quite the lustre as "Semifinal Saturday" at Cameron Heights usually does, but four teams in each division are still trying to punch their tickets to next week's WCSSAA junior & senior finals this afternoon.On the senior side, top-seeded SJAM will be seeking revenge for their only regular-season loss as they host #4 Grand River. The Rens topped the 'Landers, 61-56, back in December, although SJAM was without starting forward Brett Parrot for that contest.
The other senior game will see #2 Cameron Heights battle #3 KCI. The Raiders are seeking to make their first finals appearance since 2009, while Cameron Heights is still on a quest for their second straight WCSSAA championship.
On the junior side, top-ranked SJAM will be taking on #5 Grand River in one semifinal. The Rens were actually the only team to keep a regular-season game within single digits against SJAM, losing 64-60 at home back in December.
#2 Eastwood will host #6 Cameron Heights in the other junior semifinal. The Rebels cruised to a 75-57 win in December, but the Gaels are playing some really good basketball down the stretch so I'm certainly anticipating a closer game this time around.
Winners of today's semifinals will advance to the WCSSAA finals, which will be played next Wednesday.
