WCSSAA Senior: Qualifying Round Games

Now, here's a look at the four senior WCSSAA games that are taking place today in first-round playoff action.  Surprisingly, I don't see much "upset potential" in terms of lower seeds being able to advance, but there's a reason as to why the games are played so we'll see what happens....

(5) Galt vs. (12) Bluevale
Reg. Season:  GCI 45, BCI 31
The Knights held Galt's TJ Lall to just 14 points during their regular season meeting, but only put up 31 points themselves.  They'll need a similar defensive effort here as a win would help them advance to "AAA" CWOSSA.  Certainly a tough task, though, on the road.

My Pick:  GCI by 23

(6) Eastwood vs. (11) Southwood
Reg. Season:  ECI 49, SSS 45
The Rebels had some trouble with Southwood during their regular season meeting, but now that they're back at full roster strength, they're a different club and are certainly a playoff darkhorse.  Rebs to win, provided they aren't looking ahead to what should be an entertaining match-up with KCI.

My Pick:  ECI by 25

(7) WCI vs. (10) Preston
Reg. Season:  WCI 69, PHS 37
There's a bit of a drop-off after the top 9 teams in the WCSSAA standings, and it's evident here with a bit of a gap between the #7 and #10 teams during their regular season game.  I expect the Panthers to keep it a bit tighter, perhaps, but WCI should be ahead comfortably at the end.

My Pick:  WCI by 27

(8) Forest Hts. vs. (9) Huron Hts.
Reg. Season:  FHCI 60, HHSS 35
The winner of this game gets SJAM, but, first things first.  Trojans are certainly favoured based upon their performance throughout the season, and I look for them to advance here.

My Pick:  FHCI by 18
