WCSSAA Qualifying Round: Home Teams Win 7 of 8 Games

Teams that hosted WCSSAA qualifying round games on Thursday went a combined 7-1, with the lone "lower seeded" team to advance being in the junior ranks, where the #9 KCI Raiders defeated the #8 Huron Heights Huskies.

Senior WCSSAA
No surprises on the senior side, where the four favoured home teams advanced.

The most interesting game, despite ending up with the largest margin of victory, was probably at Eastwood, where the #6 Rebels clung to a 24-23 lead at halftime before outscoring #11 Southwood 56-8 in the second half en route to an 80-31win.

The second-half surge included one spurt of 44 consecutive points, I'm told, including a third quarter score of 39-0 for Eastwood.

Cham Ujullu put home 24 points for ECI, while Izzy Nemeth added 23.  Moiz Masud had 7 for the Sabres.

Rakesh Arjun put home 27 points and Amir Meftuh added 17 as the FHCI Trojans (#8) downed the #9 Huron Heights Huskies 69-60.  Bilal Ahmed had 18 for Huron.

WCI, the #7 seed, pulled away in the second half to a 69-47 win over Preston.  Etai Mizrahi (15) and Nick Johnny (11) keyed WCI's balanced scoresheet, while Aaron Kani had 12 to lead the Panthers.

In the 5-12 game, #5 Galt handled Bluevale 75-58.  TJ Lall had 22 and Lazar Stevanovic added 18 for the Ghosts, while Jamal John scored 14 for BCI.

Junior
As mentioned above, the KCI Raiders were the lone "lower seed" to advance in WCSSAA play, and they controlled their game against #8 Huron Heights, winning by a 60-43 margin.  Brandon Aultman had 22 for the Raiders, outscoring HHSS' Kuel Thomas, who led the Huskies with 21.

Forest Heights, the #7 seed, avenged their regular-season loss to WCI with a 51-38 home win.  Branko Damjanovic (15) and David Peet (13) led the Trojan scoresheet, while Ben Dobson had 12 for the Vikes.

Steven Sanders put home 22 points and Martin Gjorgiev netted 18 in Cameron Heights' (#6) 74-42 win over the #11 Galt Ghosts.  Riley Hind had 12 for GCI.

Abdei Hamad had 15 points, including a nice dunk, during Grand River's 62-42 win over Southwood.  Noah Robinson netted a game-high 16 for the Sabres.
