The top two seeds in the WCSSAA Junior league both advanced through to next Wednesday's championship finals by pulling out victories in competitive games.
In a high-scoring affair, the top-seeded SJAM Highlanders scored 45 first-half points en route to a 73-60 win over the pesky #5 seed, Grand River. Nicolas Milosevic had 19 and Filip Popovic 14 for SJAM, while Luka Ninkovic had a game-high 22 and Zarko Ubiparip 15 for the Rens.
At Eastwood, the #2 seed Rebels trailed 40-34 after three quarters but rallied in the fourth to take out the #6 seed, Cameron Heights, 53-51. Prabhjit Sangha scored 22 and Layee Jabateh added 14 for the Rebs; Steven Sanders replied with a 21-point effort to lead Cameron Heights.
With the wins, both SJAM and Eastwood have also qualified for the "AAAA" CWOSSA championships. The 'Landers and Rebels will be in the four-team field along with Brantford CI, and the winner of a play-in game between St. Mary's and JF Ross (currently scheduled for Tuesday, but that may change with the D8 Finals being rescheduled).
