The Woodland Cavaliers were on the outside looking in for much of the D8 regular season; however, they picked a good time to get hot.
The Cavs, who started the season 0-5 (albeit with 2 losses each against the top 2 teams, Resurrection & St. David) won their last 5 games of the year to finish at .500 and in sole possession of 3rd place.
In Wednesday's game against St. Benedict, Sydney VanderHoef had 13 points to lead the Cavs to a 28-19 win over St. Benedict. The Saints (4-6) will finish 4th.
Resurrection locked down 1st place with a perfect 10-0 record by easily handling #2 St. David (8-2), 29-8 at home. They were backed by 15 points from Sydney Gucker-Wickie and 6 from Buse Bin-Edward in that one.
As a result of their late defensive prowess -- allowing just 36 points in their final 3 games -- the Phoenix set a new D8 record for defensive performance.
Their 14.0 PPG against mark eclipsed last year's CWOSSA championship team, who gave up 15.8 PPG.
St. Mary's (3-7) and Rockway (0-10) rounded out the final standings.
D8 semifinals go on Monday, with Resurrection hosting St. Benedict and St. David playing host to Rockway.

St. David, the #4 seed, was a 34-26 winner over Monsignor Doyle. Scoring details weren't immediately available.
Semifinals on Monday will see the Celts travel to #1 Resurrection, while St. Mary's plays at the #2 seed, St. Benedict.
