It’s pretty safe to say Taome Muntz-Flowerday and her Simcoe Sabres
teammates are pumped to get another crack at the Delhi Raiders.
Since the beginning of their high school careers, a core group of Sabres
have, which includes Muntz-Flowerday have been to to the Norfolk
Secondary School Athletic Association girls basketball final. Every year
they’ve watched the Raiders celebrate.
Thursday they get one last crack, and this time are the favourites,
after beating the Waterford Wolves 4617 in the second semifinal game at
Simcoe Composite School Tuesday night.
“I’m excited. We’re all excited to be in the final again,”
Muntz-Flowerday said. “We’ve worked hard this season. We wanted to get
back to the final. It’s something we’ve focused on all season.”
Muntz-Flowerday and Morgan Hotz showed that in front of the home crowd, scoring 14 points each.
“We’ll have to work hard Thursday,” Muntz-Flowerday said. “We know
every time we play them (Raiders) it’s a good game. We just have to show
up with our ‘A’ game.”
The Raiders’ Kara Ebdon said much the same after their 36-15 win over the Holy Trinity Titans.
“We played a pretty good game tonight, but there’s always lots to work
on,” Ebdon said. “We know they’ll be coming at us hard Thursday, so we
have to be ready.”
Mercedes Duwyn and Ebdon scored eight points each to lead the way for the Raiders.
The Raiders and Sares will tip off for the NSSAA senior girls title Thursday at 7:30 p.m., at SCS.
Before that at 6 p.m., the Sabres and Raiders will meet in the junior final.
Gemma Ladosz and Lily Johnson scored six as the third-seeded Raiders upset the second-seeded Titans 29-27.
In the other semifinal, the top-seeded Sabres got 10 points from Autumn
Hagyard and eight from Julia Samborski in a 36-22 win over the Valley
Heights Bears.
