Like the Junior side, there weren't many close affairs on Thursday in the WCSSAA Senior Qualifying Round of playoffs --- and there was one lower-seeded team advancing, as well.
That would be the #11 KCI Raiders, a team with a wealth of playoff experience from their junior runs over the past couple of years, who went on the road and easily handled #6 Jacob Hespeler, 40-26. Alia Hazineh (KCI) and Kendra Dennis (JHSS) had 13 each for their respective squads.
This marked the second straight season that a KCI team has defeated a team ranked at least 5 spots higher in the playoffs. Last year, the Raiders (#7) upset #2 Cameron Heights in the quarterfinals.
#5 Bluevale posted a 47-23 win at home over the #12 seed, Glenview Park, backed by double-digit efforts from Rachael Hamm (15) and Maddy Weber (10).
Preston, the #7 seed, was a 41-28 winner over Huron Heights. Alayna Johnson (12) led a balanced Preston attack, while Brielle Guttensohn had a 10-point effort for the Huskies.
Galt's Emma Buck poured in 17 points and Beth Fleming added 13 as the #8 Ghosts took out #9 Elmira, 44-27. Nicole Cressman led the Lancers with 14 points.
Next week's quarterfinals are as follows:
(8) Galt at (1) SJAM
(7) Preston at (2) Cameron Hts.
(11) KCI at (3) Grand River
(5) Bluevale at (4) WCI
