Well, so much for my post yesterday where, based upon league results, I anticipated several close games in WCSSAA qualifying round playoff action.
As it turned out, all games were double-digit affairs, with the closest game actually being between the #5 seed, Cameron Heights, and #12 Huron Heights, which went down as a 32-22 win for the Gaels.
In that contest, Mariah Zervos had 10 and Quinn MacPherson 8 for the Gaels; Tyra Boug and Michelle M'Carthy each had 6 for Huron.
#8 Galt easily won at home over #9 Bluevale, 49-15. Azaliah Colqunoun (15) and Charlie Ridge (14) had big games for the Ghosts.
Grand River (#6) posted a 46-29 win over #11 WCI --- I'm assuming, as the score is currently reversed on the WCSSAA website. Madeline Clarke had 12 for the Rens, while Adri Kellerman netted 11 for the Vikes.
There was one "upset" on Thursday, which saw Glenview Park (#10) knock off #7 Southwood, 39-22, with Yang Oyual pouring in 17 points.
That result, coupled with Galt's win, means the Ghosts now have the inside track for WCSSAA's "AA" CWOSSA berth.
Quarterfinals will be contested as follows next week:
(8) Galt at (1) WODSS
(10) Glenview Park at (2) KCI
(6) Grand River at (3) SJAM
(5) Cameron Hts. at (4) Elmira
