D8 Semifinals: Senior Eagles Rally From 16 Down To Win

It wasn't exactly how they drew it up, but the St. Mary's Eagles will take it.

Down 31-15 at halftime, the #3-seeded Eagles outscored #2 St. Benedict 36-18 in the second half to eke out a 51-49 victory and advance to Thursday's D8 Finals.

Summer Pahl had 21 points to lead St. Mary's before fouling out in the final minute.  Brittany Gulic also added 20 points for SMHS, while Afifa Salaad had 19 and Maya Danis 16 for the Saints.

Monday's other semifinal saw the top-seeded Resurrection Phoenix get off to a slow start, as they led #4 St. David by only 5 points (17-12) at halftime before a second-half surge propelled them to a 38-21 win.

Krissia Vasquez had 12 points to lead Resurrection, while Megan Goar netted 13 to lead all scorers for St. David.

St. David will be D8's representative at "AA" CWOSSA, while the winner of Thursday's final (8pm at Resurrection) between the Eagles and Phoenix will be the "AAA" representative.

It was a tight finish in the other semifinal on Monday, as the #2 St. David Celtics held off the #3 Woodland Cavaliers, 28-25.  Thalia Cruz, Martinique Stastna, and Emily White had 6 each for the Celts, while Sydney VanderHoef had a game-high 14 points for the Cavs.
