WCSSAA Senior: Tuesday Quarterfinals

Here's a look at the four quarterfinals taking place today in the Senior Girls' WCSSAA basketball league:

(1) SJAM vs. (8) Galt
Only one team so far in the WCSSAA league has punched their ticket to a CWOSSA championship --- the Galt Ghosts, who are an "AA" school.

Edit:  Due to WCSSAA's imbalanced schedule, I've been advised that there is a "AA" play-in game on Thursday between GPSS and GCI for the berth.

The Ghosts will travel to SJAM, where they face the tall task of battling the SJAM Highlanders, who defeated Galt in Cambridge 42-18 earlier this year.

Emma Buck and co. will need to contain SJAM's Kate Moran, who has been playing some of the best basketball in the league down the stretch.  There's a reason why they play the game, but the 'Landers are distinct favourites here.

My Pick:  SJAM 48, Galt 25

(2) Cameron Hts. vs. (7) Preston
Nina Farkic poured in 25 points during the regular-season meeting, a 48-32 win by the Gaels at home.  Preston has one of the most balanced scoring outputs in the league, which could serve them well today if they're able to do a better job of containing Farkic in this one.

My Pick:  Cameron Hts. 44, Preston 30

(3) Grand River vs. (11) KCI
The Rens were victorious by a 56-33 during the regular season, although that was with GRCI's star G/F Nyamuoch Teny in the lineup.  You'd certainly expect a closer match-up this time around, especially with KCI playing well as of late.  I don't think the Raiders will win, but look for them to hang around.

My Pick:  Grand River 47, KCI 38

(4) WCI vs. (5) Bluevale
Way back on September 29th, these teams battled in one of the most thrilling games this past WCSSAA season, a 1-point WCI win.

There's no reason to expect much different this time around, although the Knights have been playing pretty well down the stretch.  I'll try and take one "lower seeded" squad to win, so I'll pick Bluevale here in what (on paper) appears to be the closest game of the day.

My Pick:  Bluevale 44, WCI 41
