D8 Senior: Rez, St. Mary's Stay on Top
In D8 Senior action on Wednesday, the St. Mary's Eagles and Resurrection Phoenix continued their winning ways and extended their lead in the standings over the rest of the field.
The Phoenix, despite missing guard Tyler Schneider (flu), had no problem with Rockway and were victorious by an 80-39 final. Andrew Mwangi (Rez) and Josh Klassen (Rockway) had 17 each for their respective clubs.
As expected, things were a bit tighter down in south Kitchener but the Eagles were able to slide past the St. David Celtics 69-64. The Eagles received a great outing from their grade 11 rookies --- PG Isaac Lance had 22 points, while SG Alex Thompson chipped in 16. Tyson Lavigne led St. David with 22 points.
And how about those Monsignor Doyle Mustangs? They continued their solid play by doubling up the St. Benedict Saints 50-25 --- this almost guarantees Doyle a playoff berth unless St. Benedict can beat Rez, St. Mary's, or St. David. Josh Loehle and Shayne Teet-Corriveau had 16 each for the 'Stangs, while Derrick Strickland led St. Benedict with 10.
Current D8 Standings:
T1. Resurrection 5-1
T1. St. Mary's 5-1
T3. Monsignor Doyle 3-3
T3. St. David 3-3
-------
5. St. Benedict 2-4
6. Rockway 0-6
