To start the junior-senior WCSSAA finals doubleheader this evening, the #1 WODSS Crusaders, who I consider the best team in CWOSSA, will battle the #2 WCI Vikings.
The Crusaders have run through the WCSSAA schedule; as I've described in a previous post, they have been virtually untouchable with only one team coming within 20 points in a league game. Their previous game against WCI was a 38-16 W-O win.
This success was not entirely unexpected. The Crusaders returned virtually all the key elements from last year's WCSSAA semifinalist squad (Madison Horst, Becca Payne, Alisha Glendinning), so we knew heading into the season that they would be in the "upper echelon" of teams.
WCI is led by Kaylee Anagnostopoulos --- but the Vikes will need somebody else to step up tonight if they're to win this one. Anagnostopoulos has accounted for 42% of her team's points over the last three games.
Provided the Crusaders don't go into this one as an overconfident #1 ranked squad, they should come away victorious. The Vikes might hang around early, but I look for the Crusaders to pull away eventually.
