Note: As per my previous post in the spring, Walkerton's high school is now known as "Walkerton District Community School" and its sports teams are known as the "Riverhawks".
Both Walkerton-based high schools, Sacred Heart and Walkerton DCS, got off to a nice start on Monday afternoon in the BAA league with both schools sweeping their respective junior-senior doubleheaders.
Against Hanover John Diefenbaker, the SHHS Crusaders outscored the Trojans 28-17 in the junior tilt, and 33-20 on the senior side of things.
Victoria Carroll had 12 to lead Sacred Heart in the senior contest, with Kira Mortimer pacing JDSS with 11.
Meanwhile, Sacred Heart's cross-town rivals, Walkerton District, swept the Saugeen DSS Royals on Monday.
The (now) Riverhawks received 19 from Ciara Lark in the senior contest to pull out a 38-32 win; Joanne Rae and Hannah Niesen each netted 8 in the junior game as WDSS scored a 36-15 victory.
BAA play continues Wednesday in the BAA South (5 teams); the North Division schedule (4 teams) gets underway next week.
