WATERLOO REGION (September 20, 2012) – With the 2012-13 secondary
school sports season kicking off this week, District 8 unveiled its new
logo that will represent the athletic association moving forward.
“This
logo represents a fresh new beginning for District 8,” said District 8
President Chris Woodcroft. “Over the course of the last 12 months we
have been updating many of our policies, procedures and programs. We
felt this was a good way to put a stamp on the progress.”
The
new District 8 logo was designed by St. Mary’s High School
student-athlete Kalvin Coulter. Coulter’s design was selected out of
over 50 designs submitted last spring by students within District 8
member schools. Coincidently, Coulter is also a member of the Football
and Rugby team at St. Mary’s.
“We had an
overwhelming response to our logo contest and a lot of excellent
submissions.” said Woodcroft. “Kalvin did a fantastic job! His design
was what we were looking for in a new logo for the association.”
The
logo symbolizes the leagues connection to the Christian faith featuring
a ‘Cross’ along with a ‘D8’. Its main colour is a navy blue. District 8
members include the five Waterloo Region Catholic Secondary Schools,
Rockway Mennonite College, Woodland Christian High School and french
catholic school Père-René-de-Galinée.
The new
logo will roll out over the course of the season with www.district8.ca
seeing the first makeover. District 8 will also unveil ‘medals’ at
their championship events this season replacing plaques. The medals
will feature the new District 8 logo.
