Playing a little catch-up here, but I can tell you that Hamilton's Cathedral HS came away victorious over the weekend in Guelph at the JF Ross Senior Invitational Tournament --- one that's been going on for years and generally has a pretty solid level of competition.
Cathedral's Gaels defeated Guelph St. James 54-42 in the championship final, backed by Jakayla Douse with 22 points and Amoney Abakar who netted 17. Brittany Gazzola (17) and Ashley Benham (10) paced the Lions.
St. James defeated Georgetown DHS in the semifinals, while JF Ross dropped a 59-41 decision to Cathedral (Douse, 21). Teddi Taran had 14 and Steph Gordon 12 for JFR.
In the third-place game, Georgetown snuck past Ross 52-50, backed by 13 points from Rebekah Kunica. Julia Robertson (16) and Alanna Vosper (14) led the Royals in that one.
