Three weekends, three tournament titles.
Not a bad stretch for the Grand River junior Renegades who captured the Eastwood CI Invitational by taking out the homecourt Rebels 45-35 in the final.
Things were interesting early in the final, with Murtada Khamis unavailable in the opening half due to a forgotten uniform. The Rebels took advantage, jumping to a quick 7-0 lead before the Rens crept back in it before grade nine sensation Jamal Murray hit 5 three-pointers in the second quarter to give GRCI a lead that they would not relinquish.
Murray finished with 20 in the game to lead all scorers.
Look for the Rens to continue to be my #1 junior CWOSSA team (barring a major upset) next week, though the St. Mary's Eagles will get one of the top CWOSSA players back soon when Mike Blumel returns from his broken finger. To this point, St. Mary's has been without his services.
