The WCI Vikings got all they could handle from Ben Reyhani and the SJAM Highlanders on the road on Thursday as they squeaked out a 56-55 victory to improve to 3-0, while dropping the 'Landers to 0-3.
Reyhani had 30 points in the win for SJAM, while Jacob Ranton continued his strong play to top WCI scorers with 18.
That was a near miss for me as far as my picks were concerned, but there were two games that went opposite of the way that I thought they might.
Although I picked the Panthers to win, it was the Glenview Park Panthers --- not the Preston Panthers --- who came away with a 1-point victory at home on Thursday evening. You could make the case that Preston may have been due for a bit of a let down after their big win against Cameron Heights on Tuesday, but Glenview certainly played well and deserved the "W". Chris Thompson and Erist Wame had 13 each in the win for GPSS, while Wes Meertens (10) and Levi Kani (9) topped the PHS scoresheet.
The other one that caused a misstep was the Huron Heights - KCI contest. Sean Samuel has rejoined the Huron Heights roster, which is obviously the big development of the week (while I was away in Ottawa). His 23 points helped propel the Huskies to a 52-42 win. WCI transfer Jeremy Scott (who sat out last season due to transfer eligibility rules) added 9, while Devin Bogart had 13 and Julian Greer 8 for the Raiders.
Here are the rest of Thursday's results, in games that I picked correctly:
Grand River 57, Bluevale 54
A bit closer than I might have expected --- but we'll potentially get to see these squads face-off again tonight in round 2 of the Knights-Vikes classic should everything go according to form. For the Rens, Filip Cvrkalj had 21 and Chuder Teny 15, while BCI was led by 20 from Perrin Smith and 11 from rookie Lukas Seibert.
Forest Heights 72, Cameron Heights 52
The high-flying Trojans moved to 3-0 with their big guns doing the majority of the work; Juwan Miller had 34 including a half-court buzzer beater to end one of the quarters, while Javon Masters had 21. Vedran Dmitrovic led the Gaels with 22.
Waterloo-Oxford 52, Eastwood 38
Watch out for the Crusaders, who might be a bit of a darkhorse (especially later on in the year after their volleyball season ran late into OFSAA). Tyler Bowman had 11 and Jesse Dodgson 10 in the win, while ECI received 7 each from Rik Lam and Mirza Zahic.
Jacob Hespeler 72, Southwood 29
The Sabres were no match for the high-flying Hawks in this one; JHSS was backed by 17 from Saajan Arora and 14 from Brendan Vandyken. Zac Sauer had 13 for Southwood with Russell Giles adding 8.
Galt 54, Elmira 27
Jack Simmons continued his strong start to the season with a 17-point outing as Galt doubled up the Lancers. Scott Holton added 12 for GCI, while Walker Stewart (10) and Angus Docherty (6) led EDSS.

Junior WCSSAA
The SJAM Highlanders might have been a little upset at being left off of the initial "CWOSSA top 10 rankings", and they took out their frustrations on the upstart WCI Vikings, coming away with a 51-48 win in the "game of the day" between two unbeaten clubs.
Nedim Hodzic had 15 and Brett Parrott 13 in the win, while Ivan Bilandzic and Elai Mizrahi had 9 each for the Vikes.
Other games on Thursday went as follows:
Grand River 71, Bluevale 56
The Rens continue their strong start, backed this time by 13 from David Bajic and 12 from Carlos Cruz. Jamal John had a game-high 21 for Bluevale, with DJ McIlwraith adding 14.
Cameron Heights 59, Forest Heights 32
In a rematch of last year's WCSSAA junior final, the Gaels flipped the script with a convincing win. Romeo Johnson had 12 and Sasha Simic 8 in the win for Cameron, while Ryan Hagey led all scorers with 13 for the Trojans.
Eastwood 52, WODSS 13
The up-and-coming Rebels are a team to keep an eye on, and they rolled to their third consecutive win. Izzy Nemeth and Tyrelle Rafferty had 14 each for the Rebs, while WODSS received 4 each from Paul Schroeder and Mitch Davidson.
Jacob Hespeler 31, Southwood 24
The Hawks picked up their first win on the year, thanks to 9 from Ethan Rudd and 8 more by Brandon Roth. Steve Warner and Mohamed Babiker had 6 apiece for SSS.
Huron Heights 51, KCI 30
(Scoring details unavailable)
Preston 42, Glenview Park 22
After playing two of the top teams in WCSSAA (CHCI/ECI) the first two games, Preston picked up their first win in convincing fashion. Tanner Derjugin had 11 and Ryan Mitchell 8 in the victory, while Rega Rashid led GPSS with 10.
Galt 60, Elmira 28
Galt took care of business on its home floor on Thursday, with TJ Lall leading the way (21 points). Lazar Stevanovic added 15, while the Lancers received 6 each from Josh Ramirez and Alex Weber.
