The Resurrection Phoenix got off to a strong start and defeated a pesky Waterloo-Oxford squad 60-39 in the opening game of their home tournament on Friday morning.
The Phoenix enjoyed 23-9 lead at the end of a first quarter that saw three Resurrection dunks (2 by Mike Pereira and 1 from Tyler Bartley).
After a 33-15 Resurrection halftime lead, the Crusaders battled to get the lead back down to 14 before a flurry of Rez fast break points and a couple threes helped solidify the victory.
It was a good game for the Crusaders, when you consider this was really their first serious action due to OFSAA volleyball. After making the WCSSAA quarterfinals last year, they should again be in line for a potential CWOSSA berth this year as well.
RCSS 23-10-09-18 = 60
WODSS 09-06-10-14 = 39
RCSS: Mike Pereira 18, Cam Gibbs 7, John Moi 6, Stephen Cordle 6, Tyler Bartley 6, Cory Kenning 4, Byron Ramirez 4, Patrick McGlynn 3, Tyler Schneider 2, Adam Schneider 2.
