WCSSAA Senior: Vikes, Raiders Stay Unbeaten

The WCI Vikings and KCI Raiders continued along their collision course for possibly another WCSSAA finals matchup, as the Vikes defeated previously unbeaten Cameron Heights 64-45 while the Raiders bested CWOSSA AAA rival Galt Collegiate 63-50.

Waterloo 64, Cameron Heights 45
My Pick:  WCI
In the WCI/CHCI game, the Vikes received 16 from Lindsay Taylor and 15 from Alyssa Shortt en route to the victory.  They did a great job on defense containing the Gaels' high powered offensive attack; however, Liz McLellan (13) and Erin Robbins (11) did post double-digit performances on the afternoon.

KCI 63, Galt 50
My Pick:  KCI
The Raiders, meanwhile, received a 29-point performance from Kate McTavish en route to their win against Galt; this performance marked a CWOSSA-high so far this season.  Skye Johns also chipped in 12 for the winners, while the Phillips girls (Liz - 22; Christine - 16) were tops for the Ghosts.

Here's a rundown of the rest of Thursday's action:

Eastwood 32, Bluevale 30
My Pick:  ECI
In a low-scoring affair, the Rebels were able to escape Bluevale with a 2-point victory.  Elissa Dent was back in the Knights lineup, but it wasn't enough they fell victim to a Michelle Hudyn three-pointer with 7 seconds left that gave ECI the victory.  Hudyn led the way for the Rebs with 17, while Erika Gardiner had 8.  Shannon Curran led the Knights' scoring with 10 points.

SJAM 60, Forest Heights 47
My Pick:  SJAM
I initially thought I had this one wrong as the score was reversed on the WCSSAA website; however, it has since been corrected.  This game was a high scoring affair with 6 (yes, six!) players in double figures.  For SJAM, those performers were Malena McGrossen (14), Sandra Sutton (13) and Payton Thiel (11).  Forest Heights had a game-high 22 points from Blair McNaughton, while Jocelyn Kesso (11) and Sara Potter (10) were the other Trojans in double-figures.

Preston 48, Jacob Hespeler 47
My Pick:   PHS
The Panthers squeak by the Hawks at home, a big victory for them to stay in the thick of the WCSSAA pack.  Kirsten Leach and Nikea Worrell each poured in 19 for Preston, while Sarah Guttin had a huge day for Jacob Hespeler, blitzing the Panther defense for 26 points in a losing effort.

Southwood 48, Glenview Park 23
My Pick: SSS
No trouble for the Sabres on this night as they move above .500 to 3-2 on the year.  They received 16 from Emily Vandonk and 14 from Alex Palvetzian on this night, while GPSS' Emily McLean led their scoring with 8.

Elmira 47, Grand River 38
My Pick:  GRCI
I just can't seem to put it all together for a perfect set of WCSSAA picks, as the Lancers take out the Rens on the road.  Kaitie Martin (15) and Tammy Freeman (15) were tops for EDSS, while Aileen MacLellan also had 15 for the Rens.

WODSS:  Default win (HHHS)
