Around The Horn: Weekend CWOSSA Round-Up

We'll dedicate some full posts to the local tournament action; however, there were a few teams making some "out of town" trips over the past few days.  Here's a look:

WCI Makes Consolation Final at SOSI
The WCI Vikings went 2-2 over the weekend at the SOSI Tournament in Hamilton.

The Vikes opened up with a close 51-46 loss to London's HB Beal (Nick Johnny, 12), then reeled off two consecutive wins to make the consolation final.

WCI defeated Bishop Tonnos (Ancaster) 50-33, backed by 11 points each from Sam Sutherland and Aaron Grubb, before taking out St. Anne (Windsor/Lakeshore) 44-40 in the consolation semis.  Johnny again led the way for WCI with 12 there.

Brampton Notre Dame defeated the Vikes in the consolation final, 71-46.  Sutherland had a 20-point effort for WCI in that one.

St. John Kilmarnock of Breslau won the tournament championship, with former St. Mary's Eagle Mike Blumel named as tournament MVP (could you imagine if he was still there?)

CHCI Makes Semifinals at Campion Showdown
Cameron Heights was in Brampton this past weekend at the Campion showdown, where they won their two pool games before losing a semifinal game.

The Gaels took out Stanstead College (Quebec) 75-61, with Sasha Simic pouring in 26 points for CHCI.  He had another 21 points in their second win, a 55-44 victory over Brampton St. Roch.

Cameron was edged 57-55 by St. Francis Xavier (Mississauga) in the semifinals.  Jackie Do had 15 for the Gaels.

Nik Farkic, who tallied some impressive assist totals over the weekend, was named as a tournament all-star.

North Park Nips Ross in Welland
Two of my "top ten" Senior CWOSSA teams met in Welland over the weekend, with #9 North Park nipping #10 JF Ross 59-57 in the tournament's Bronze Medal game.

Brandon John had 21 for the Trojans.

Other results weren't immediately available.
