Or, in other words, "comparing apples to oranges".
I've devised a math formula to try to compare the four "power conferences" on the same level, if you will.
One of the questions that consistently gets asked in basketball circles is, "how does League A compare to League B?"
To be fair, there's no easy way to answer that question. For instance, comparing WCSSAA to any of the other three major leagues is difficult if only for the fact that the WCSSAA league comprises (at least) twice as many schools as any of the others.
What I've done is used my initial power rankings release to aid in compiling a "league strength rating"; leagues with fewer teams are aided by a "division factor" to put them on the same plane as WCSSAA.
Consider it a sort of "ratings RPI", if you will.
1. WCSSAA - 3.00
2. District 8 - 3.67
3. District 10 - 4.76
4. District 5 - 5.29
Certainly, no surprises there with the top 4 teams being either WCSSAA (2, 3, 4) or D8 (1) in the opening release.
With this as a starting point, it will be interesting to monitor these numbers throughout the season.
