D8 Wednesday: 'Stangs Sneak Past Celtics

Senior

In D8 senior action on Wednesday afternoon, the Monsignor Doyle Mustangs clipped the Rockway Flames on the road by a 31-28 final.  Mailey Gray and Leah Flanagan had 8 points each for Doyle, who were able to withstand a 14 point effort from Rockway's Stephanie Veltri.  Emma Kschesinski added 7 more for the Flames.

The other D8 senior game on Wednesday saw the St. Mary's Eagles continue to dominate the D8 opposition, en route to a 51-19 win over St. David.  Kaitlyn Schenck (17) and Laura Boterman (13) led the way for SMHS, while Jenn Woods had 7 and Kathleen Zizzo 5 for SDCSS.

In a slightly odd scheduling quirk, the St. Benedict Saints had bye days the first two days of the season ---- as their boys' volleyball teams did battle with PRDG and Woodland Christian (who do not field girls basketball teams in the D8 league).

Standings
1.  St. Mary's 2-0
2.  Monsignor Doyle 1-0
3.  St. David 1-1

The other game on Wednesday saw the difficulties continue for the Rockway Flames, who mustered only 4 points in a 29-4 loss to Monsignor Doyle.  The Flames have scored 7 points through their first 2 games of the season.  Top scorers in that contest were Aleisha Taylor (9) and Taylor Fitzpatrick (6) for MDCSS, while the Rockway buckets were scored by Courtney Brubacher (2) and Samantha Veltri (2).
