WCSSAA Results: September 27

Senior

As mentioned in a post below, the Eastwood at Grand River game was postponed due to the power outage in east Kitchener.

With regards to my picks, I had a solid 5-1 record on Tuesday but props have to go out to the JHSS Hawks for handling the KCI Raiders (with ease I might add).  Looks like I've learned my lesson on picking the Raiders, who are 0-2 for me thus far.

Here's the rundown of senior action:

Preston 40, Galt 34
My Pick:  PHS
The Preston Panthers got double digit performances from Kirsten Leach (14) and Alex Aguiar (10) as they held off the Galt Ghosts on the road.  Galt's balanced attack was keyed by Milica Stevanovic (8), Bryar Hind (6) and Rachel Rivers (6).

Jacob Hespeler 48, KCI 28
My Pick:  KCI
The Hespeler Hawks proved that, despite their relative youth, they are a force to be reckoned with in this year's WCSSAA league.  Brooklyn Wright had another massive game with 18, while Taylor Dennis added 11 for the victors.  Christiana Koebel was the top KCI scorer with 13; Nikaya Snell added 4 more.

Southwood 45, Huron Heights 15
My Pick:  SSS
No trouble for the Sabres as they cruise past Huron at home.  Nicole Barnard was the top scorer for the Sabres (and in all of WCSSAA on Tuesday) with 20 points, while Kayleigh Hutt-Taylor added 10 as SSS picked up their first win.  Emily Bidinosti had 5 to lead the Huskies.

Elmira 36, Glenview Park 22
My Pick:  EDSS
The upstart Lancers continue their way with a solid defensive performance on Tuesday afternoon.  Krista Weins (10) and Julia Frey (7) topped the EDSS scoresheet, while Marja Vandermeulen and Alyssa Goodrich had 7 each for the Panthers.

Cameron Heights 37, SJAM 31
My Pick:  CHCI
The Gaels got all they could handle on the road from 0-2 SJAM but earned their third straight victory nonetheless.  Liz McLellan (15) and Cathy Bekhyt (12) topped the CHCI scoring while Malena McCrossan-Moses had 15 to top SJAM with Lauren Bingeman adding 9.

WCI 68, Forest Heights 25
My Pick:  WCI
Nobody can seem to stop the Vikes right now in WCSSAA, who moved to 3-0 and are winning by an average of almost 40 points per contest.  Lindsay Taylor had 18 and Lindsay Lessard 16 to pace the Vikes in this one, while Blair McNaughton (12) and Sara Potter (6) were the top FHCI scorers.

Bye Win:  Bluevale

Junior

WODSS 45, Bluevale 29
The Crusaders continue to roll and may have established themselves (along with WCI) as the "teams to beat' in WCSSAA.  Time will tell.  Madison Horst had 16 and Tess Pettigrew 10 for WO, while Bluevale received 11 from Julia Curran and 5 from Kailee Sawyer.

Galt 31, Preston 29
All-Cambridge battle goes to the Ghosts by a nose.  Courtney Davis (9) and Megan White (8) topped the GCI scoring, while Breanna Johnson had 8 and Michaella Starratt 7 for Preston.

KCI 29, Jacob Hespeler 28
Another tight matchup in Cambridge goes to the KCI Raiders, who win this battle of 1-1 clubs.  Frances Campbell had a huge outing for KCI with 15 of their 29 points, while Alia Hazineh added 4 more.  JHSS was led again by the Wrights --- Courtney (11) and Candice (9).

Southwood 37, Huron Heights 20
Taylor White had 14 and Cali Doran 10 as the Sabres defeated Huron at home.  Jenna Gangl had 4 for Huron.

Elmira 36, Glenview Park 19
The Lancers nearly doubled-up the Panthers in this all-AAA battle.  Nicole Cressman (13), Sydney Jones (8) and Bailey Bond (7) had the notable EDSS performances while Jocelyn Kivell netted 11 and Kristin Hall 4 for Glenview.

Cameron Heights 33, SJAM 22
Shama Saleh had 10 and Omnia Osman 8 for Cameron in this one, as they handed the Highlanders their first loss of the year.  Danielle Schaefer (8) and Perry Gasteiger (6) were tops for SJAM.

WCI 39, Forest Heights 23
The Vikes got it done on the defensive end on Tuesday as they took care of the Trojans.  Danielle Sauve netted 16 and Kaylee Anagnostopoulos had 9 for WCI; Cass Wettlaufer had 6 for FHCI.
