Don't hand the Eastwood Rebels one of the CWOSSA "AAAA" spots just yet.
The Rebels, despite getting 33 points from all-star forward Michelle Hudyn, were dropped on the road 57-49 by the upstart Elmira Lancers on Thursday afternoon.
The youthful Lancers, with a large number of grade 11s on the roster, maintained their composure after Eastwood jumped out on a 10-1 run to start the game; they would extend to a double-digit lead at 14-4 moments later.
However, Elmira stuck with their game plan and was able to catch up before the end of the half, and the game was close the rest of the way.
Fifth-year power forward Jessica Reichard was outstanding for Elmira in the win, and had a stat-line to remember: 18 points and 20 (yes, 20!) rebounds. Krista Wiens added 16 more for EDSS while Julia Frey chipped in with 10.
Both teams are back in action next Tuesday, when the Rebels travel to play one of their rivals, the Grand River Renegades while Elmira plays host to Glenview Park. Both games are 5:00pm starts.
