"A" CWOSSA: Woodland, Walkerton Take Titles over Host Phoenix

Woodland - "A" Senior Champs
The Woodland Cavaliers are heading to OFSAA for the second time in school history.

The Breslau-based school captured their second "A" CWOSSA championship in as many years in convincing fashion yesterday, topping Peninsula Shores of Wiarton 45-18 in the championship game.

The Cavaliers also cruised in their semifinal game, a 50-20 win over Walkerton DCS.  Peninsula Shores won a tight 28-22 contest over Valley Heights in their semifinal.

The big wins shouldn't come as much of a surprise as the Cavaliers were pretty competitive against bigger schools in the D8 league this past season.  In fact, they came within 10-12 points of all of the AAAA schools at one point or another, including league champions Resurrection.  They also beat St. David twice and lost to St. Benedict by two another time.

On the junior side, Walkerton took home the "A" title for the second straight year with a 31-24 win over the hosts from Peninsula Shores.

Earlier semifinals had Walkerton over Woodland Christian, 22-16, and Peninsula Shores over Valley Heights 40-21.
