D4 Finals: Top-Ranked Clubs Cruise To Championship Wins

Wolverines With Their Trophy
The Wellington Heights Wolverines and the Westside Thunder cruised to senior and junior girls' D4 basketball championships respectively on Thursday afternoon.

On the senior side, the top-ranked Wolverines had little trouble with Palmerston Norwell, pulling away for a 56-30 victory.  Nicole Bauman poured in 26 points while Mikayla Pletsch added 11 for WHSS; Laura Rumph led the way for Norwell with 14.

Wellington Heights will advance to "AA" CWOSSA next week in Guelph.

The junior game was decided by a similar margin, with #4 Centre Dufferin (who had upset the #1 team, Wellington Heights in the semifinals), falling to the #2 seed, Westside, by a 50-27 score.

Hailey MacDonald had a game-high 18 points for Westside, while Stephanie Kaehli led the way for the Royals with 16.

Westside, an AAA school, will play Owen Sound West Hill for a berth in the CWOSSA tournament.  Centre Dufferin (AA) will advance automatically to next week's event in Guelph.
