It wasn't the greatest day if you were a fan of the St. David Celtics on Monday.
The Celts juniors (A3), who defeated St. Benedict in their regular-season finale, barely survived against (B2) Monsignor Doyle, holding off the Mustangs in a 27-25 final.
Perhaps they were looking ahead to a possible rematch against SBCSS, but nonetheless they were still able to escape with a victory. Megan Goar (15) and Ciarra Dunne (6) were the top Celtic scorers; Emily Van Allen (10) and Ariana Mota (7) led the way for Monsignor Doyle.
The senior Celtics were not so lucky as they were defeated 37-26 by the visiting Woodland Cavaliers, who advanced to the D8 semifinals for the first time in recent memory.
Bobbi-Sue Hentges had a game-high 16 for St. David, but it wasn't enough. Julianna Thomson (13) and Emma Roorda (10) paced the way for Woodland.
The other games on Monday went according to form from a rankings perspective. In senior, #3 St. Benedict cruised past winless (#6) Rockway, 51-23, with Kayla Leusink putting home 24 and Dana Milani adding 12. Kendra Lee had 10 for the Flames.
In junior, I was expecting it to be a bit closer but the St. Mary's Eagles cruised past Woodland 39-17. Scoring details were not available from source.
