It'll be 1 vs. 2 in both District 8 Athletic Association girls' finals on Friday evening.
They'll be hosted by Resurrection CSS after the top-seeded Phoenix earned the right to do so (as the best remaining senior seed) by taking care of business against #5 Woodland CHS, 48-30.
Sarah Schulz poured in 31 points for Rez, while Julianna Thomson had 14 for the Cavaliers. Woodland's season isn't done yet, though, as they'll advance to the "A" CWOSSA championship where they have to be considered a strong favourite to take home the title.
#2 St. Mary's was a winner in the other senior game on Wednesday, defeating St. Benedict by a 36-26 count. Britney Gulic (10) and Angela Mercurio (9) led the way for the Eagles, while Kayla Leusink and Dana Milani had 8 each for the Saints.
On the junior side, top-seeded Resurrection rolled past #4 St. Mary's 43-18, with Jama Bin-Edward and Krissia Vasquez knocking in 12 points each. Alexis Stoyakovich had 6 for the Eagles.
St. Benedict got their revenge for a late-season loss to St. David by handling the Celtics 27-17. St. David did a nice job containing Saint star Afifa Salaad (9 points) but Julia Mascarenhas put home 12 to help the SBCSS attack on Wednesday. Megan Goar led the way for SDCSS with 8; the Celtics will move on to the "AAA" CWOSSA playdowns.
