Looking for a three-peat, the Simcoe Sabres senior girls basketball team will be facing a very familiar foe in the Norfolk Secondary School Athletic Association final Thursday on home court.
Thanks to a 37-18 win over the Valley Heights Bears in Tuesday’s semifinal, the Sabres will again face the Delhi Raiders for the title.
The Raiders did their part to set up the rematch of last year’s final thanks to a 53-32 win over the Holy Trinity Titans.
In the first semifinal, Kendra Freund, Breanne VandeVen led the way with 13 points each to lead the Raiders, while Leah Ebdon poured in 12, eight of which came in the first quarter.
Emily Leger pitched in with eight points, while Morgan King scored four, with Skye Grant-Alexander and Kelsey Ward added two each.
Katelyn Heynes led the Titans with 14 points, while Megan Megan Kalliokoski had 12.
Celine Atkins scored four points and Jessica Durham netted four.
In the second semifinal, Jenna Schott led all scorers with 14 to pace the Sabres, while Justine Shortt pitched in with eight.
Rachel Krisko scored seven, while Taome Muntz-Flowerday scored four points, with Hailey Taylor and Morgan Hotz adding two each.
Heading into the final, both teams sport identical 8-1 (playoffs included) records. In the first meeting of the season, the Sabres ran away with a 49-39 win, while the Raiders won the rematch 32-25.
In last year’s final, the Sabres won the final 43-37.
Thursday’s final will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Simcoe Composite School, the junior final will kick things off at 6 p.m.
