WCSSAA Senior: Gaels End Vikes Season

#6 Cameron Heights 62, #3 Waterloo CI 47

The Cameron Heights Golden Gaels got some hot shooting and dispatched of the WCI Vikings by a 62-47 final on the road this afternoon.

Looks like WCI coach Craig Nickel knew exactly what he was talking about when he said in the paper the other day that the Vikes needed to keep this one in the 50s. When I passed him in the hallway during halftime of the junior game, he was quick to tip his hat to the Gaels and noted that "they played very well."

This ends a tremendous run for the Vikes who got a reputation as a "lunch box crew" ---- no real standout stars (especially offensively) but a bunch of guys who went out and worked their tails off.

Stefan Arezina poured in 27 points in the win, while Nebojsa Djeric added 15. Alex Copp put home 16 for WCI, with Jasper Wesson adding 12.

#4 KCI 56, #5 Southwood 52

Looks like the Raiders were able to hold off Southwood in this one. Big games from Arben Kalaba (17) and Darnell Simpson (15) helped KCI here. Mark Stotesbury (20) was tops for Southwood. Despite the loss, Southwood's season isn't done yet --- they will advance to AAA CWOSSA.

JR from wcssaasports.com caught the second half of the game and has some more details here.

#2 SJAM 51, #7 Forest Heights 45

The Trojans gave the Highlanders a game, but fall in the end. Grade elevens Ben Reyhani (15) and Edem Ame (12) led the way on this night. Srdjan Stanivuk had 18 and Gage Paquette 8 for the Trojans ---- surprising to see no sign of Taylor McNaughton among the top scorers.

#1 Bluevale 84, #8 Preston 47

Bluevale rolls right along as the #1 Knights blast Preston in this one. Stefan Cvrkalj had 23 points in the win, while Andrew Beney chipped home 15.
