Ross Upsets Centennial to win Senior D10; Bishop Mac Blows Out CCVI in Junior
The John F. Ross Royals got the last laugh --- this year.
The Centennial CVI Spartans had beaten JF Ross three consecutive years in the D10 final (Ross beat CCVI in 2006), but the Royals beat the Spartans 69-59 in this year's edition of the D10 final --- and it was a trio of unlikely grade 11 sources that stepped up.
Shamlo Saeed put in 23 points (and 7 rebounds), Will de Groot had 13 and Jack Cornett put in 11 for the Royals.
The Royals held Rob House to just 12 points in the contest, though he did register a double-double by pulling in 11 rebounds. Jay Francis led CCVI with 23 (and 8 rebounds), and Serge Khapiyangi put in 10.
More on this to come --- but it does set up an interesting "pool of death" scenario at CWOSSA. In one pool will now be Centennial, the BCI/SJAM winner, and the RCSS/SMHS winner. Yikes!
Junior: Bishop Mac 67, Centennial 39
The Bishop Mac Celtics completed an unblemished D10 schedule by defeating the Centennial Spartans in convincing fashion.
The Celts got 15 points from Mitchell Wood and 10 each from Michael Clouthier and Ben Morris en route to victory. Aleks Kaludjerovic had 11 for Centennial in the loss.
Both clubs will advance to their respective CWOSSA championship (Bishop Mac - AA, Centennial - AAAA).
