D8: St. Mary's Seniors, Juniors Advance

Senior D8 Semifinal: SMHS 82, MDCSS 48

The top seeded St. Mary's Eagles came out on fire (shooting about 70% from the floor in the first half), built a 49-22 halftime lead and cruised to an 82-48 victory.

Alex Thompson led the Eagles with a 20 point outing. Demar Thompson added 13, while Ben Bankazo had 11.

For Doyle, Shayne Teet-Corriveau had 18 and Josh Loehle 13.

The Mustangs can't hang their head --- they had a tremendous year and definitely turned a few heads. With the bulk of their team returning, they will likely have a great opportunity to build on this year's success.

Junior D8 Semifinal: SMHS 51, SDCSS 42

The Celtics had their chances in this one; however, poor free throw shooting and a couple of unlucky bounces eventually did them in (twice in the second half SMHS overshot passes only to have them bounce off Celtic players and into Eagle hands for layups!).

The Celtics were down 46-31 when they turned up the pressure. They hit back-to-back threes and then got a turnover off a pressure (and 1-of-2 FTs that followed) to have basically a 7 point "possession" and cut the lead to 8.

St. Mary's, however, maintained their composure from there --- they hit free throws and extended back to a double-digit lead before the Celtics hit a couple free throws with a few ticks remaining.

The Celts, despite the loss, will advance to AAA CWOSSA.

Jake Winter led SDCSS and all scorers with 14. Matt Scanlon and Connor Montag had 9.

For SMHS, Tyler Hergott had 13 and Chris Clouthier added 12.
