SJAM 33, Waterloo CI 30
My Pick: SJAM
SJAM's Jake Robinet and Edem Ame had 11 points each as the Highlanders held on for the win. They led 27-14 after THREE (yes, that wasn't the halftime score) but the Vikes got it within 1 with 1:00 to play. The win sews up second place for SJAM, while WCI will finish 3rd. The 'Landers played without starting guard Ben Reyhani.
Southwood 52, Jacob Hespeler 33
My Pick Was: SSS
No trouble for the Sabres as they cruise past the Hawks. Mark Stotesbury (15) and Griffen Sharpe (12) led the way. Joel Perkins and Patrick Martin had 7 each for Hespeler.
Bluevale 60, Grand River 49
My Pick Was: BCI
Not sure how Bluevale attacked this game, but they come away with the win. Stefan Cvrkalj (19) and Andrew Beney (15) paced Bluevale while Osama Qahwash had 17 for the Rens.
Cameron Heights 75, Forest Heights 72
My Pick Was: CHCI
As I had predicted earlier, it was definitely a high scoring affair downtown Kitchener this afternoon. However, it wasn't who you would expect with the 20+ numbers---at least for FHCI. Gage Paquette had 24 for the Trojans while Stefan Arezina (24) and Nebojsa Djeric (21) were top scorers for Cameron.
Preston 51, Glenview Park 24
My Pick Was: PHS
Abe Upshaw (16) and Jeff Robinson (12) outscored the Panthers by themselves in this one. No Panther scored more than 5 points (Mark Saris & Winston Karges - 5 each).
Waterloo-Oxford 78, Eastwood 68
My Pick Was: WODSS
The Crusaders come through for me with a huge win over the Rebels. Patrick Connors had 20 while Erich Wooley chipped in 16 in the win. The Rebels waste a huge effort from Zaman Sindy (28 points) and are now going to need a lot of help to get into the playoffs. We'll get to that in a second.
Elmira 57, Galt 51
My Pick Was: GCI
Took the Ghosts by 3 but it was Elmira that comes through with the big win, thanks again to Eric Alderice (game high 21 points). Matt Bauman had 16 for Elmira, while Nic Bauman led Galt with 16.
KCI 67, Huron Hts 35
My Pick Was: KCI
No trouble for the Raiders here. Arben Kalaba (10) Darnell Simpson (8) and Alex Kaufman (8) lead a balanced KCI attack. Shayan Butt had 15 for Huron.
Standings after Tuesday's Games:
1. Bluevale 11-0
2. SJAM 10-1
3. WCI 9-2
4. KCI 8-3
-----
T5. Cameron Heights 7-4
T5. Southwood 7-4
7. Forest Heights 7-4 (losses to both CHCI & SSS)
8. Preston 6-5
9. Grand River 5-6
10. Waterloo-Oxford 4-7
T11. Galt 3-8
T11. Elmira 3-8
T11. Jacob Hespeler 3-8
----
T14. Eastwood 2-9
T14. Glenview Park 2-9
16. Huron Heights 1-10
Let's look at the top first. We actually know the first 3 seeds:
1. Bluevale
2. SJAM
3. WCI
KCI should finish 4th with a win over JHSS.
I believe Cameron has the inside track over Southwood for 5th (if they end up tied) but Cameron has the tougher final game (Grand River). Southwood plays 1-10 Huron Heights.
Bluevale should beat FHCI and Preston should beat Galt; however, FHCI beat Preston during the year and should finish 7th with Preston finishing 8th.
Grand River looks to be sewn into the #9 spot unless they win and Preston loses to Galt.
Waterloo-Oxford is in the playoffs.....unless the world collapses and Jacob Hespeler beats KCI, Galt beats Preston and Elmira beats Glenview (best chance of the three) all in the same night.
Let's have a closer look still at the chase for the final spots:
10. WODSS 4-7 (vs WCI)
T11. Galt 3-8 (@ Preston)
T11. Elmira 3-8 (@ Glenview)
T11. Jacob Hespeler 3-8 (@KCI)
----
T14. Eastwood 2-9 (@SJAM)
T14. Glenview Park 2-9 (vs EDSS)
I'm thinking the following:
WCI over WODSS
Preston over GCI
KCI over JHSS
SJAM over ECI
GPSS/EDSS - toss-up
In the event of an EDSS win (4-8)
10. Waterloo-Oxford 4-8 (H2H over Elmira)
11. Elmira 4-8
12. Galt 3-9 (H2H over JHSS)
----
13. Jacob Hespeler 3-9
In the event of a GPSS win (3-9)
10. Waterloo-Oxford 4-8
Then tied for 11th would be Elmira, Galt, Jacob Hespeler, and Glenview Park.
Elmira (1-2)
Elmira over Galt
GPSS over Elmira
JHSS over Elmira
Galt (2-1)
Elmira over Galt
GCI over GPSS
GCI over JHSS
JHSS (1-2)
JHSS over Elmira
GCI over JHSS
JHSS over GPSS
GPSS (1-2)
GPSS over Elmira
GCI over GPSS
JHSS over GPSS
......actually, it would be a pretty easy tiebreak as all 4 teams have all played each other. Galt and Jacob Hespeler would then get the playoff berths with 2-1 records among tied teams. Galt would be #11 and JHSS #12 (by virtue of their head to head game).
Again, this is dependent on NO MAJOR UPSETS in the other games - keep that in mind! It's high school athletics and anything can happen!
