The D10 junior champion Bishop Macdonell Celtics defeated Simcoe CS 80-16 in a qualifying game for the CWOSSA AA basketball tournament.
The Celts led 37-3 after the opening quarter and then promptly took their foot off the accelerator, coasting to a comfortable victory.
Today, Owen Sound CVI will play Saugeen in a junior qualifier to determine the final AA participant.
The Celtics, my #1 CWOSSA junior team, are the overwhelming favourite to win their third consecutive AA championship. In fact, I'd be surprised if a team comes within 35-40 points of them this Friday.
The senior bracket, though, is a little more interesting and features a couple of very good teams in Lourdes (Guelph) and OSCVI. I'd give the slight edge to OSCVI to get the OFSAA berth, but we'll see how it shakes down.
Here is the schedule for AA CWOSSA this Friday (Sacred Heart HS, Walkerton):
10am - Junior Semi-Final #1 - Sacred Heart vs. Norwell
11:30am - Junior Semi-Final #2 - Bishop MacDonell vs. OSCVI or Saugeen
1pm - Senior Semi-Final #1 - Lourdes vs. Kincardine
2:30pm - Senior Semi-Final #2 - OSCVI vs. Norwell
4pm - Junior Final
5:30pm - Senior Final
