The two #1 seeds in the D4 league, the Centre Dufferin Royals (senior) and Norwell Redmen (junior) lived up to their top billing on Wednesday afternoon in their respective D4 championship games.
The Royals led right from the start in a 71-34 demolition of Orangeville Westside SS. Doug Costanzo (15), Marco Zanette (15) and Dan Craig (13) were able to key the offensive attack. Troy Barwick had 8 and Josh Milican 6 for the Thunder.
The win means that CDDHS will advance through to a "play-in game" for an AAA CWOSSA spot against Guelph St. James next Tuesday, February 22nd. The game will be played at Centre Dufferin.
In junior action, defense was the name of the game as the Norwell Redmen (#1) outlasted the #3 seed, the Centre Dufferin Royals, by a 34-25 count. Despite the low-scoring affair, three players hit double figures, including Norwell's Jeremiah Weidemann (10) and Eric MacDonald (10). Dhruv Patel led the Royals with 11.
Norwell will participate in the "AA" CWOSSA championship next week, while Centre Dufferin, like their senior counterparts, will host St. James in a CWOSSA "AAA" play-in game on Tuesday.
