The Resurrection Phoenix knew it was coming.
Of course, knowing it's coming and seeing it in action are two different things.
In a game that was eerily similar to their regular season outings, the St. Benedict Saints used a stalling offense to hang around through three quarters before the Phoenix pulled away late in a 43-27 semifinal victory at Resurrection this afternoon.
Although it wasn't to the extent of last year's junior semifinal (a 24-12 RCSS win vs. St. Benedict), the senior Saints stalled as much as they could and limited Resurrection to just 26 points through three quarters, as RCSS led 26-20 after three. In fact, with the lack of shooting, the third quarter saw just 7 total points (4-3 Rez).
Mike Pereira scored 8 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter as the Phoenix pulled away, using a 17-7 run over the final eight minutes to win going away.
Cam Gibbs added 9 for Rez, while Jon Moi and Tyler Schneider had 4.
Kueth Geng and Tyrone Tyndale had 10 each for SBCSS in the loss.
Just as a sidenote, a certain blogger picked Rez to win this one by 16 earlier in the day (cough cough).
