(1) Cameron Heights vs. (8) Eastwood
Regular Season: CHCI, 44-42
Mark's Pick: Cameron Heights by 10
It's always a hard-fought game when these rivals (about a mile apart distance wise) get together and I expect nothing less this time around. Cameron Heights, however, probably won't be taking the "eighth seed" lightly as a result of their close regular season affair.
Jason Thompson will need to have a solid outing in this one (like in the regular season matchup) and I think he will --- Gaels to win here.
(2) Forest Heights vs. (7) KCI
Regular Season: Did Not Play
Mark's Pick: FHCI by 13
KCI Raiders, meet Juwan Miller.
One of the top junior boys' players in CWOSSA, Mr. Miller averaged around 27 PPG in league play this season --- or, in other words, he accounted for nearly 44% of Forest Heights' points this season. Of course, one player doesn't make a team and the Trojans have a legit second scoring option in Ian Anderson, who is generally good for double figures on any given night.
The Raiders will need to continue to use their balanced attack to have a shot here, but I like the Trojans at home.
(3) Grand River vs. (6) Galt
Regular Season: Did Not Play
Mark's Pick: Grand River by 9
The Grand River Renegades have probably been tipped off by now about Galt's Scott Holton, who poured in 42 points in Galt's qualifying round win over Jacob Hespeler. The bigger question in this one, however, might actually be how Galt plans on stopping Grand River's one-two punch of Chuder Teny and Murtada Khamis. Teny, in fact, ranked 2nd only to the aforementioned Juwan Miller in the league scoring race this season.
I predict a close game early and for the Rens to grab some breathing room late and advance to Saturday's semifinals.
(4) Bluevale vs. (5) Glenview Park
Regular Season: Bluevale, 48-34
Mark's Pick: Bluevale by 5
The regular season doesn't mean anything now, and I expect this to be a tighter affair than the last time that these clubs met --- Sean Davidson had only 11 last time around so his output today will be key to Glenview's chances, provided they can get one of their key grade 9s (Chris Thompson or Tristan Price) to have a solid effort as well. Still, I like the "veteran" Bluevale Knights to win this one at home.
