Tuesday Around the Horn: CWOSSA

"AAA" Qualifiers Today:  Several qualifying games for the AAA CWOSSA championships will be going down today, including a doubleheader in Shelburne between Centre Dufferin and St. James.  Although the Lions are heavy favourites in the junior showdown, the senior showdown should be quite competitive and I expect the winner of that game to claim the #2 seed heading into the tournament this weekend (with a perfect D5 run, North Park appears to have locked up the #1 seed, in my opinion).

In Brantford, Brantford CI will host West Hill in the other "AAA" qualifier.

We'll likely have the "AAA" rankings in the next day or so, once the teams are determined.  Once we have them, we'll let you guys know.

Eagles, Trojans To Sort Things Out Tonight:  The St. John's Green Eagles and the North Park Trojans will play game #3 of their best of three D5 championship series tonight at Assumption (obviously, the final is tied 1-1).  The Eagles won game two in blowout fashion after dropping the first tilt --- of course, Trojan big man Jon Dulmage was not in the lineup due to the flu.  Reports suggest he will be back in the lineup for today, which will go a long way in helping the Trojans contain the Green Eagles' interior line.

Facebook Event Projects Big Crowd for WCSSAA Finals:  According to the "Cameron Heights vs. SJAM WCSSAA Finals Facebook Event", so far there's almost 200 people confirmed to attend the championship final on Wednesday evening at Cameron Heights.  Action gets under way at 7pm, with the junior final between Forest Heights and CHCI.  The senior game, scheduled for 8:30, will start at about 8:45 --- given the awards presentations and the usual warm-up allotment (15 minutes).  At any rate, it will be interesting to see how the crowds turn out (and the atmosphere that results) as the Highlanders are pretty good at getting their fans out based upon past WCSSAA championship games.  It should be an exciting game.

WCSSAA Game to Determine CWOSSA Pools:  The WCSSAA finals will determine the final make-up of this year's CWOSSA "AAAA" championship pools.  We can tell you what we know so far, though:

Junior "A":  St. Mary's, CHCI/FHCI winner, Centre Wellington
Junior "B":  CHCI/FHCI loser, JF Ross, St. John's

Senior "A":  Resurrection, CHCI/SJAM winner, Centennial CVI
Senior "B":  CHCI/SJAM loser, JF Ross, St. John's

Pereira Comes Full Circle:  With his stellar performance in Friday's D8 basketball final, Resurrection's Mike Pereira may have given himself the edge in what (at one point) appeared to be a fairly wide-open race for the D8's MVP award.  Not too shabby for a kid that was cut from the Resurrection junior team in grade 9 (but did play for RCSS' midget team that year).  He was a contributing member off of the bench for the Rez junior CWOSSA championship team in grade 10, saw major minutes last year (off the bench) for the Phoenix senior team in grade 11, and is now flourishing in a starting role with the Senior Phoenix this year (grade 12).
