With a busy week about ten days ago, this kind of slipped off the radar.
However, just prior to the exam break, the St. Mary's Eagles were able to defeat the Resurrection Phoenix to capture their first midget boys basketball league title since the D8 reinstated the "grade 9 only" league 4 years ago.
Resurrection had captured the previous three championships --- and actually has several former midget players on their current senior roster.
D8 Midget Final League Standings:
T1. Resurrection 5-1
T1. St. Mary's 5-1
3. St. David 4-2
4. St. Benedict 0-6
In semifinal action, the Phoenix handled SBCSS by 20, while the Eagles survived a close affair with the Celtics.
In the final, the Eagles made it a very difficult mountain to climb for the Phoenix by starting the game on a 12-0 run. Although RCSS cut it to four down the stretch, the Eagles were able to pull away late and win by double digits.
Congratulations Eagles!
