WCSSAA Junior: Thursday Results & Playoff Info

This one isn't going to be as easy as the senior one, so fasten your seat belts:

Cameron Heights 58, WCI 36
Like their senior counterparts, the Gaels take 1st in the junior circuit after beating WCI.  Jason Thompson had 14 to lead the way for CHCI, and Vladimir Matovic added 11.  Max Pfeifle was the lone Viking in double figures with 10.

Bluevale 38, Eastwood 35
Probably the game of the day, and it lived up to its billing.  The Knights could have dropped way down the standings, but will likely end up with a first-round bye (once I get the logjam sorted out).  Lukas Seibert had 15 for Bluevale while Garrett Large added 7 for the victors.  ECI got 14 from Ousmane Kromah and 6 from Tre Nicholson.

Grand River 70, Elmira 56
The Rens, like the Knights, will find themselves in that 9-3 logjam after beating EDSS.  Chuder Teny poured in 21 for GRCI with Jon Milks adding 15 in the win.  Elmira got 16 from Alex Weber and 11 from Lucas Nosal.  On a sidenote, nice to see EDSS back in the playoffs after a winless junior campaign last year.  This year also marked the first time in EDSS history that they beat SJAM in league play.

Forest Heights 68, SJAM 56
Juwan Miller continued to have a hot hand, scoring 25 as the Trojans clinch 2nd with a win over SJAM.  Fuad Barucija added 13 for the Trojans, while the 'Landers received 16 from Sayaad Bacchus and 15 from Nebojsa Sarkanovic.  Unfortunately for SJAM, they now find themselves on the outside looking in after....

Preston 52, Galt 45
The only way the (3-8) Panthers would get into the playoffs would be if they could take out the 8-3 Galt Ghosts --- and they did on their home floor.  Aaron Colter had 20 in the win, while Marselis Subban had 9.  Galt received 19 from Faizan Fayyaz and 13 from TJ Lall.

KCI 67, Jacob Hespeler 53
The Raiders secure 7th with a win over the Hespeler Hawks.  This can partially be attributed to the outstanding performance from Matt McKinnon, who poured in 32 in the win.  Jeremy Settle added 13 for the Raiders, while JHSS was led by James Roberts (24) and Simon Beeksma (16).

Huron Heights 47, Southwood 45
Although only pride was on the line in this one, these clubs still gave it their all in a tight game.  Alex Deadman led the Huskies with 14, while Arshid Babury netted 12.  Zac Sauer was the lone Sabre in double figures with 13.

Glenview Park 49, WODSS 29
No trouble for GPSS here.  Sean Davidson had 23 in the win, while Chris Thompson scored 6.  WODSS received 9 from Garner Matthews and 7 from Kale Bryant.

Final Regular Season Standings
1.  Cameron Heights 11-1
2.  Forest Heights 11-1

Tie for Third:
Bluevale 9-3
Grand River 9-3
Glenview Park 9-3

All three teams have faced each other.  Bluevale defeated GPSS (48-34), Grand River defeated Bluevale (55-45) and Glenview defeated Grand River (62-60).  Therefore, all teams are 1-1 against each other so we go to the +/- tiebreak.

This would favour Grand River, who end up at +8.  Grand River is placed 3rd.

We then go to the head-to-head tiebreak between Bluevale and Glenview Park.

As Bluevale defeated Glenview Park, Bluevale is placed 4th.  Glenview Park is 5th.

Moving on, KCI and Galt both finished with 8-4 records.
As Galt won the regular season matchup, Galt is placed 6th.  KCI is 7th.

8.  Eastwood 7-5
9.  WCI 6-6

Then we have a three way tie for 10th (4-8) between Preston, Elmira and Jacob Hespeler.

All three teams, however, did NOT play each other.  JHSS beat Preston (47-46) and Elmira beat Jacob Hespeler (51-49).  This is the one I'm most confused with, but my interpretation of the WCSSAA tiebreak rules will be:

Elmira 10th, Jacob Hespeler 11th, and Preston 12th.  We'll see what officially comes out from WCSSAA, so don't quote me on this just yet.

Update:  We've heard from WCSSAA that this is indeed the correct order for those teams.

So, there you have it:
#1 - Cameron Heights
#2 - Forest Heights
#3 - Grand River
#4 - Bluevale
#5 - Glenview Park
#6 - Galt
#7 - KCI
#8 - Eastwood
#9 - WCI
#10 - Elmira
#11 - JHSS
#12 - Preston

First-round playoff matchups
(12) Preston at (5) Glenview Park
(11) Jacob Hespeler at (6) Galt
(10) Elmira at (7) KCI
(9) WCI at (8) Eastwood
