Junior: Eagles, Celtics Results at the Junior Kennedy All-Catholic

The 35th anniversary edition of the Kennedy Ontario Invitational All-Catholic Junior Boys Basketball tournament took place this past weekend in Hamilton --- a strong field of 16 teams participated including two top-ten teams from the CWOSSA region (St. David/Waterloo and St. John's/Brantford).

The Celtics picked up the lone CWOSSA win on the weekend, going 1-2 overall.  They dropped their first round game to Brampton's St. Edmund Campion (51-34) but rebounded against Bishop Reding of Milton to pull out a 43-36 win.

This advanced the Celtics through to a consolation semifinal on Sunday morning against Jean Vanier of Richmond Hill (a top-20 team in the province).  Though St. David trailed by 10 entering the fourth, Vanier quickly stretched the lead in the waning minutes as the Celtics went ice-cold (56-26 was the final).

St. John's lost their first round game to D'Youville of Brampton, the eventual tournament champions, 52-28.  The Eagles would also drop their second game to Corpus Christi (Burlington) 59-53 (which eliminated them from further participation).  Despite the losses, the play of Adrian Mendoza was a bright spot; he averaged 14.0 PPG during those two games which ranked 7th overall among tournament participants.

The tournament actually featured 3 of the top 4 teams in the GTA (D'Youville, Father Goetz and Holy Trinity).  Here's a recap of the consolation and championship semifinal and final results:

Championship Semifinals
