D10 Thursday: Crusaders Stun Undefeated Celtics; Royals Upset Spartans

It wasn't a good day to be a CWOSSA ranked team in District 10 Senior Girls' play.

Rainey Psenicka poured in 24 points as the 4-3 Lourdes Crusaders went on the road and defeated the 7-0 (and CWOSSA #4 ranked) Bishop Macdonell Celtics by a 48-40 final score.

Dianne Priamo had 8 to lead a balanced Bishop Macdonell scoresheet.

The win marked a big turnaround from the last time these two teams met, which was a 50-27 victory at Lourdes (to be fair, that was an 11-point game before the Celts caught fire in the fourth).

However, that wasn't the only upset on Thursday.

The JF Ross Royals, who lost their season opener to Centennial 52-29, were much more comfortable on their home floor as they defeated the CWOSSA #8 Spartans 46-38.

Ali Darling had 12 and Mya Leacock 8 for the Royals, while Hannah Newman (12) and Emma Cain (10) contributed double-digit efforts for the Spartans.

JF Ross moved to 4-3 while handing the Spartans their second loss of the season (6-2).

The other two senior games went as expected.

Ijeoma Staunton had 16 and Abbey MacIntyre 14 as Guelph CVI knocked off Centre Wellington 42-24.  Nikki Sinkner had 9 for the Falcons.

St. James, meanwhile, got a home win over Orangeville by a 53-19 score.  Kelsey Widdrington had 18 while Stephanie Giovinazzo and Von Davis added 10 each.  Jodi Pratt had 8 for the Bears.
