WCSSAA Junior: Crusaders Hand Hawks First Loss

We're down to one remaining unbeaten in the WCSSAA Junior Girls' basketball league.

The WODSS Crusaders (now 7-1) went on the road and defeated the Jacob Hespeler Hawks (now 8-1) 26-18 in a low-scoring affair down in Cambridge.

Rachel Bietz did the most damage on Thursday, scoring 11 for Waterloo-Oxford, ahead of a trio of Crusaders who contributed four points each.  Kayla Gallant led the way for JHSS with 5.

The Hawks will remain in second place (for now) by virtue of WODSS' having one less win with a game in hand (earlier postponement of a game against winless Forest Heights).

In other action on Thursday:

Huron Hts. 40, KCI 23
This was an important one for the Huskies in terms of their playoff positioning.  Jamila Beckford knocked home 16 in the win, while Brielle Guttensohn added 7.  Simone Clarke had a game-high 17 points for the Raiders.

Preston 36, Grand River 17
Preston took care of the Rens at home, backed by 10 from Brooke Davidson and 8 by Blaire Raftis.  Angelica Lloyd (9) and Jenna Crawford (8) were the top GRCI scorers.

WCI 37, Bluevale 25
The Vikes got the best of their rivals here, thanks in part to 12 from Ramla Abdalla and 6 more by Marissa Garach.  Jasmine Lambert (10) and Avery Webster (8) were the top Bluevale scorers.

Galt 48, Eastwood 21
The Ghosts moved into positioning for a potential first-round bye with a big win at home over ECI.  Amy Newnham had 16 and Beth Fleming 9 for the Ghosts, while Daniela Chavez scored 6 for the Rebels.

Cameron Hts. 28, Elmira 14
The Gaels had a strong defensive effort and doubled up the Lancers in this one.  Tamara Grahovac led CHCI with 10, while Natalie Mayer also had 10 for Elmira.

SJAM 53, Glenview Park 10
No problems for the 'Landers here, as they received double-digit efforts from Griffin Lack-Shane (16) and Joanna Bamberger (12).  Chuchu Oyual scored 7 for Glenview.
