The St. Mary's Eagles, who I had moved up to #6 in this past week's junior girls' ranking, showed that they were certainly worthy of that over the weekend by capturing the tournament title at the Preston Junior Girls' Invitational.
The 8-team draw opened up with a great match-up between the Eagles and CWOSSA #5 ranked North Park from Brantford.
Summer Pahl had a strong effort and the Eagles, who generally led by about 8-12 points for the majority of the game, captured a 38-27 victory.
St. Mary's then defeated host Preston (41-31) in the semifinals before knocking off Holy Trinity of Simcoe in the finals.
The North Park Trojans, meanwhile, rebounded to capture the consolation side of the bracket.
