WCSSAA Junior: Tuesday

To nobody's surprise, the SJAM Highlanders picked up their 6th straight WCSSAA league win on Tuesday, but I wanted to give a shout-out to a couple of Cambridge schools who are also still undefeated -- the Galt Ghosts and the Jacob Hespeler Hawks.

Both squads are now 5-0 after winning their games in very different fashions.  The Ghosts squeaked past Cambridge rival Preston, 29-25, while the Hawks were victorious over KCI to the tune of 40-15.

Here's a recap of Tuesday's action:

WODSS 53, Huron Hts 30
The Crusaders moved to 3-1 with a big home win over Huron Heights.  Rachel Beitz (12) and Rachel Woolvett (11) paced the Crusaders, while Jamila Beckford had a game-high 20 points for Huron Heights.

Elmira 39, Glenview Park 36
The Lancers nipped the Panthers in a battle of these "AAA" CWOSSA teams, thanks to 9-point efforts from Natalie Mayer and Sami Martin.  Chuchu Oyual had a game-high 11 for GPSS, with Darcy Simmons adding 7.

Eastwood 25, Grand River 21
Big win for the Rebels as they significantly boost their playoff chances with a win over GRCI.  Danielle Gardiner had 9 for ECI, while Jenna Crawford was tops for the Rens with 7.

Jacob Hespeler 40, KCI 15
As mentioned above, a big home win for the Hawks over KCI.  Charlotte Clifford had 11 and Amy Claydon 10 for the Hawks, while Simone Clarke led the Raiders with 7.

Galt 29, Preston 25
Tight game at Galt ended in favour of the home team, with Beth Fleming scoring 10 and Juley Dunlop adding 9.  Alayna Johnson had 12 for the Panthers, while Blaire Raftis scored 5.

SJAM 49, Cameron Hts. 31
To show how talented the CWOSSA #2 'Landers are, the 18-point margin of victory was the smallest to date for them in WCSSAA play.  6'2" Grade 9 Kate Moran led the way with a big 21-point effort, and Madison Sherman chipped in with 8.  Zoe Hoyte was tops for CHCI with 6.

WCI 47, Forest Hts. 18
Ramla Abdalla (18) and Victoria Giguere (11) had double-digit efforts for the Vikes on Tuesday as they moved to 4-2 on the season.  Morgan Berg was the Trojans' top scorer, with 9.
