If you're wanting to pick an exciting WCSSAA Senior Girls' game to watch, you may want to check your schedule to see when any of the league's top 5 teams will match up.
The trend of very tight games between the top squads in the circuit continued on Thursday, with the Bluevale Knights edging out the WCI Vikings 47-44 at home.
In fact, all games to this point between the top teams have been decided by 3 points or less:
Grand River (by 1) over WCI
Grand River (by 1) over Cameron Hts.
Jacob Hespeler (by 3) over Bluevale
Bluevale (by 3) over WCI
....this level of parity should set us up for some exciting quarterfinal and semifinal playoffs.
Back to Thursday's game, it was Julia Curran (16) and Maddy Weber (12) pacing the Knights (8-1) who withstood a game-high 19 from Kaylee Anagnostopoulos of the Vikes. Danielle Sauve added 9 more for WCI (7-2).
In other action on Thursday:
KCI 52, Huron Hts. 39
My Pick: KCI by 18
This was a "must have" for the Raiders, who handled Huron at home. Francis Campbell (13) and Michaela Schlumberger (9) were the top KCI scorers, while Kiana Chin put home a game-high 22 for the Huskies with Sarah Bidinosti adding 7.
Grand River 54, Preston 18
My Pick: GRCI by 34
No issues here for GRCI as they post a big win in Cambridge. Nyamuoch Teny had 19 and Maya Day 15 for the Rens, while Kyra Drane had 5 to top Preston.
Jacob Hespeler 31, WODSS 19
My Pick: JHSS by 27
A tale of two halves in this one, as the Hawks jumped out to a 26-11 halftime lead before coasting to the 31-19 final (yes, an 8-5 second half for WO). Candice Wright (14) and Jasmine Ramcharan (9) led JHSS; Peyton Hofstetter had 8 for the Crusaders.
Southwood 53, Forest Hts. 41
My Pick: SSS by 28
Taylor White poured in a 30+ effort for SSS (31 in total) and the Sabres needed all of those against a gritty FHCI squad. Brianne Jewell added 10 for the Sabres, while Tyra Wilson (14) and Linna Liou (13) paced the Trojans.
Galt 39, Eastwood 26
My Pick: GCI by 13
The Ghosts continued their win streak at home over Eastwood. Sophie Caiton had 13 and Molly Bradford 8 for the Ghosts, while Mandy Schell led the Rebs with 9.
Cameron Hts. 52, Elmira 43
My Pick: CHCI by 22
The Gaels got all they could handle from Elmira on the road before coming away with the single-digit victory. Nina Farkic (15) paced three Gaels in double-figures --- Alex Smith (13) and Hunter Johns (11) being the others. Sydney Jones (16) led three Lancers with double-digit efforts; Karley Sider had 11 and Nicole Cressman 10 for Elmira.
