WCSSAA Senior: Top Teams Continue Winning Ways

No real surprises on Tuesday afternoon, as those teams at the top of the standings "took care of business" with victories over squads with inferior records.

That said, there were a couple of blemishes on my picks record, as a couple of games that I saw as tight home wins went the other way --- so congrats to Galt (over WODSS) and Preston (over Huron Heights) on the victories.

Here's the results rundown:

Elmira 31, Forest Hts. 20
My Pick:  EDSS by 16
The Lancers moved above .500 (4-3) by besting the Trojans.  Karley Sider had 9 and Nicole Cressman 6 in the win for Elmira, while Linna Liou (8) and Tyra Wilson (4) were the Trojan leading scorers.

Galt 39, WODSS 24
My Pick:  WODSS by 7
Nice job defensively by the Ghosts, holding Waterloo-Oxford to just 24 points.  Molly Bradford contributed 15 in the win for GCI, while Tess Pettigrew led W-O with 13.

Bluevale 56, SJAM 30
My Pick:  BCI by 24
Julia Curran poured in 19 points and Maddy Weber added 13 for Bluevale as they moved to 7-1 on the season.  Taylor Trush (15) and Milica Koprivica (12) had nice performances in defeat, contributing to the majority of SJAM's scoring.

Jacob Hespeler 43, Eastwood 10
My Pick:  JHSS by 35
Candice Wright had 16 and Kendra Dennis 11 as the Hawks remained unbeaten in league play.  Mel Samuel (4) and Alisha St. Amand-Closs had 4 each for the Rebs.

Grand River 55, KCI 40
My Pick:  GRCI by 18
Nyamuoch Teny had a huge 25-point effort to help the Rens also remain as one of the league's unbeaten squads.  Rookie guard Maya Day added 15 for GRCI, while Thea Taylor (10) and Olivia Mickie (8) led the way for the Raiders.

Preston 45, Huron Hts. 38
My Pick:  HHSS by 3
The Panthers got past Huron on the road, thanks to 14 from Olivia Naylor and 10 by Maddie Devries.  Kiana Chin had a game-high 17 for the Huskies, with Aly Jacobs adding 13.

Cameron Hts. 55, Southwood 43
My Pick:  CHCI by 22
Valiant effort by the Sabres, particularly from Taylor White, who had a game-high 25 points in defeat.  However, Nina Farkic and Hunter Johns had 21 each to propel the Gaels to the win.
