The St. Mary's Eagles are headed to the SBA Shootout at the Hoopdome this weekend.
This is the second year of the tournament; Kitchener Resurrection participated last year and advanced to the playoff round where they lost a close game to Anderson CVI of Whitby (#2 seed at OFSAA "AAA" last year and one of the top teams in Ontario this year).
Anderson CVI won the tournament last year and are returning this year to defend their title.
This tournament is interesting as it features a wide range of teams ---- not only in terms of skill level, but size as well --- from "A" right through to "AAAA". Here's a breakdown:
Pool A
Pope John Paul (Toronto) --- GTA #12
Donald A. Wilson SS (Whitby)
Philopateer Christian College (Mississauga)
Kipling CI (Toronto)
Pool B
Anderson CVI (Whitby) --- GTA #6
St. Jean de Brebeuf (Vaughan)
Huntsville SS (Huntsville)
Woburn CI (Toronto)
Pool C
St. Mary's (Kitchener) - CWOSSA #1
St. Theresa of Lisieux (Richmond Hill)
Crescent Private School (Toronto)
Northview Heights (Toronto)
League Records:
Lisieux: 0-3 in YRAA "Zone A" (very competitive four team division with Vaughan & Newmarket Denison)
Crescent: 3-4 in CISAA East
Northview Heights: 4-5 in TDSB "North" - West Division
Pool D
Metro Prep (Toronto)
Markham DSS (Markham)
Weston CI (Toronto)
Notre Dame (Burlington)
....I look for the Eagles to win their division and advance to a very competitive semifinal game against (most likely) Pope John Paul from Toronto.
